Xenoestrogens include toxic forms of estrogens that block
progesterone and can block testosterone production.
Products That are High in Estrogen (Estrogen Dominance) or Progesterone
Disrupters
Lavender oil
Tea Tree Oil
Aloe vera
Pomegranate
Testing Hormones
Useful diagnostic tests include blood, saliva and urinary
hormone testing as well as imaging with ultrasound and thermography.
We recommend saliva testing as it is
more accureate
Causes of High Estrogen
Adrenal fatigue
Caffeine, alcohol and smoking
Chemicals and inhalant exposures
Drugs (medicinal and recreational)
Eating disorders
Excess or prolonged use of birth control
pills
Lack of physical activity or exercise
Poor nutrition (low protein and fat
portions but excess carbohydrate consumption)
Xenoestrogens (poor 2-OH to 16-OH ratios
in the body)
Stress
Lack of physical activity or exercise
Poor sleep
Xenoestrogens (poor 2-OH to 16-OH ratios
in the body)
The Key Hormones
Estradiol:
Plays an important role in brain function, helps maintain bone health,
contributes to the softness of the skin, helps to maintain healthy bladder
function, treats hot flashes and vaginal dryness.
Estriol:
Acts as a natural cancer preventive, protects the breasts and other
estrogen-rich tissues by blocking cancer cell proliferation.
Progesterone: Needed by brain cells to function properly, works
with estrogen to balance the menstrual cycle and the health of the
reproductive organs including the breasts, prevents excessive proliferation
of both normal and cancerous breast cells, promotes bone health, relieves
depression, PMS and night sweats.
Estrogen - Too High
This happens either from making or
retaining too much estrogen or supplementing with too much. Women with
midsection weight often have high estrogen levels, because fat cells have an
enzyme that makes estrogen from adrenal hormones. So this means weight loss
often reduces estrogen levels. When estrogen levels are high, it is
important to make sure there is
enough progesterone to balance its effects. Supplementing with too
much estrogen can make estrogen receptors less responsive, leading to
estrogen deficiency symptoms.
Low Progesterone
Treatment includes natural progesterone
supplementation, which is very safe and effective.
The herb chasteberry may also help
normalize progesterone levels.
Sometimes low progesterone indicates low
thyroid hormone levels, therefore lab tests for thyroid function may be
recommended.
High Progesterone
This is almost always
a consequence of over-supplementation.
Your Practitioner will need to recommend a
dose reduction.
Prolonged supplementation of high doses of
progesterone can cause progesterone receptors to become less sensitive,
which could result in symptoms of low progesterone.
An excess of progesterone may also lead to
increased testosterone levels and symptoms of testosterone excess.
A dose reduction or different progesterone
type (cream instead of capsule) may be required.
Food High in Estrogen To Avoid If Your Are Estrogen
Dominant
All soy - genetically modified in soy formula, soy
protein powder, etc.
Too much sugar and processed carbohydrates
Grains
Dairy (processed, high in hormones, many chemicals -
choose raw organic dairy

Use of plastic containers with BPA which mimics estrogen
- especially heated bottles
Avoid in general the use of plastic bottles and storage
containers
Do not drink out of heated plastic bottles of water, left
in the sun
Teflon - increase PFOA's 400 times
Detox by eating more cruciferous vegetables, high in
sulphur (broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collard greens)
Take Milk thistle and dandelion for detoxification
